About Indiana’s Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP)
The Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) is Indiana’s Medicaid health coverage program for eligible adults ages 19 to 64. HIP provides access to essential healthcare services, including preventive care, doctor visits, hospital services, prescription medications, mental health services, and more.
Beginning January 1, 2027, significant changes are coming to HIP. Indiana will implement new work and community engagement requirements for many HIP members. Most adults ages 19 to 64 who are enrolled in HIP and are not exempt will be required to complete at least 80 hours per month of qualifying activities, such as employment, education, job training, apprenticeships, or community service, to maintain coverage.
Some individuals may qualify for exemptions, including people who are pregnant, caregivers of young children, individuals with certain disabilities or serious medical conditions, and others who meet specific criteria established by the state.
Beacon Community Impact has created this resource page to help Indiana residents understand these upcoming HIP changes, learn whether the new requirements may apply to them, and access tools and resources that can help them prepare and maintain their healthcare coverage.
Who Is Exempt from HIP Work Requirements?
